The protests over the coup have been the largest since the so-called Saffron Revolution in 2007 when thousands of monks rose against the military regime. Protesters include teachers, lawyers, students, bank officers, and government workers. The military has imposed restrictions, including curfews and limits to gatherings. Security forces have used water cannons, rubber bullets, and live ammunition to try to disperse protesters.
On 21 November, the deadliest day since the coup, more than 1278 people were killed.
