This report develops from the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The Donbass conflict, which began in 2014, escalated into a larger-scale war. Ukraine has become the scene of Europe’s latest war, a invasion initiated by Russia.

The photographs shows the consequences of the war on the Ukrainian people and their army. Since the beginning of Russia’s invasion, at least 6000 civilians have been killed in this conflict, including approximately 246 children. The massacre of Bucha, where about 1000 civilians were killed, the siege of Mariupol, the continuous shelling in Donbass and Kharkiv….

The victims are more than numbers, they are broken lives with a personal story behind them, who have lost the most precious thing we possess, life. Thousands of people have fled their homes in search of refuge, in many cases leaving behind family and friends. According to World Health Organisation figures, 6.3 million people have been internally displaced and 2.9 million have left Ukraine.

These photographs cover Ukraine’s geography, from Kiev oblast through Kharkiv, Donetsk, Lugansk and Zaporizhia oblasts. The cruelty of war returns to Europe in the 21st century, bringing us closer to death, destruction and sadness.
