UKRAINE, THE LAST WAR IN EUROPE

DIEGO HERRERA CARCEDO

Entrant Name: Diego Herrera Carcedo
Award Status: – Nominee
Award Category: Spot News
Story Locations: Ukraine

The victims are more than numbers, they are broken lives with a personal story behind them, who have lost the most precious thing we possess, life. Thousands of people have fled their homes in search of refuge, in many cases leaving behind family and friends. According to World Health Organisation figures, 6.3 million people have been internally displaced and 2.9 million have left Ukraine.

These photographs cover Ukraine’s geography, from Kiev oblast through Kharkiv, Donetsk, Lugansk and Zaporizhia oblasts. The cruelty of war returns to Europe in the 21st century, bringing us closer to death, destruction and sadness.
